Lines of research

Team01

a) Plastics (CNEPRU 2015-2018)

Plastics are present in all areas of human activity, from packaging to interplanetary rockets. This primacy of plastics over other materials is due, apart from their low price, to the fact that there is not a single form of plastic but a multitude, each with particular properties. In addition, the manufacturing processes, which make it possible to obtain the most complex shapes easily and without machining, are varied. They were thus able to create multiple monomers and, in collaboration with physicists and mechanics, manufacture them on a very large scale while ensuring extreme purity, invent catalytic polymerization processes and, finally, develop entirely new machines.

b) Thin layers (PRFU 2018-2021)

The objective of our research is focused on improving the mechanical, structural and tribological properties of thin layers deposited on steel substrate by magnetron sputtering:

-Characterization of ZrN and VN thin layers deposited on steel substrate by magnetron sputtering

-Study of the mechanical, structural and tribological behavior of thin MoN and VN layers deposited on steel substrate by magnetron sputtering

-Study of the mechanical behavior of binary layers by covering and finite element simulation

-Study of the tribological behavior of thin layers (MoVN and ZrVN) deposited by PVD. Concerns should be considered:

  • Functionality and integrity of these thin layers: tribological properties (friction, wear, etc.) and impact of complex environments and production processes on their behavior
  • Breaking interfaces
  • Nanotribology and adhesion mechanisms
  • Resistance of coatings under varied conditions
  • Tribology and sustainability

c) Nitriding (PRFU 2021-2024)

The objective of our project is focused on the influence of the parameters of the nitriding process on the morphology and nature of the nitrided layers;this process makes it possible to create a diffusion layer with a high nitrogen content in solid solution without precipitation of nitrides in order to maintain the corrosion resistance properties.Furthermore, theone of the objectives of this project is to better understand the interactions between nitrogen and carbon during nitrocarburization treatments of austenitic stainless steels (for example): --- -Study of the structural, mechanical and tribological behavior of stainless steels nitrided by plasma.

-Study of the mechanical and tribological behavior of 42CrMo4 steels nitrided by gas and salt bath.

- Influence of the type of nitriding process on the metallurgical properties (structural, mechanical and tribological) of stainless steel and 42CrMo4.

-Study of the tribological behavior of 42CrMo4 steels nitrided by gas and salt bath methods and comparison.
